ATR Supervision

Trauma-Focused • Reflective • Culturally Responsive

Starting out as an art therapist can be exciting and uncertain at the same time. You may have learned important theories, ethics, social justice frameworks, and approaches to art therapy in graduate school, while still wondering: What does this actually look like to apply all the big ideas in a therapy room?
I offer individual supervision for art therapists working toward the ATR credential. My goal is to help you build confidence, strengthen your therapeutic skills, and develop your own voice as an art therapist.
My approach to supervision
My style is warm, reflective, and clinically grounded. I place particular emphasis on translating theory into practice: understanding not only what we might do with a client, but why, what may be happening within the therapeutic relationship, and how we can respond thoughtfully.
My approach draws from relational-cultural, feminist, psychodynamic, trauma-focused, and art therapy perspectives, alongside culturally-responsive and anti-oppressive practice. Together, we will explore case conceptualization, therapeutic relationships, art interventions and materials, transference and countertransference, boundaries and ethics, culture and identity, power, and those complicated moments when there is no obvious “right” intervention.
I want supervision to be a space where you can bring uncertainty and curiosity, not a place where you are expected to already have all the answers, so that you can:
– translate theory into practical therapeutic work
– build strong confidence using art therapy with clients
– strengthen clinical case conceptualization and therapeutic judgment
– understand how social justice and anti-oppressive values actually show up in sessions
– think deeply about culture, identity, power, and the therapeutic relationship
Experience I bring
My clinical experience spans community mental health agency, nonprofit, and hospital settings. I am experienced with providing short- and long-term individual and group therapy with children, adolescents, and adults impacted by relational, domestic, sexual, and systemic violence, as well as working with people experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use concerns, self-harm, eating disorders, and complex trauma and other mental health needs. I have extensive experience providing both in-person and virtual art therapy and psychotherapy, and understand the different ways therapeutic presence, art-making, relationships, and interventions can take shape across these settings.
I currently supervise staff therapists and art therapists and lead a graduate clinical internship program within a nonprofit setting. I also provide training in reflective supervision to clinical supervisors across different settings in Chicago, and train frontline practitioners in crisis intervention and vicarious trauma. In addition, I have taught the Cultural Dimensions course in the graduate art therapy program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and regularly present at national creative arts therapy conferences. My publications have explored trauma, identity, belonging, and culturally responsive practice, and I have served as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and graduate student theses. I also served on the Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education (ACATE).
Why supervision matters to me
Supervision is something I feel deeply passionate about.
Throughout my own development, I have benefited from supervisors and mentors who took the time to help me think more deeply, trust my clinical judgment, and develop my own way of working. Passing that support forward is my personal commitment.
I believe our field becomes stronger when we invest in one another. My hope is that supervision gives you not only the hours you need toward your credential, but a relationship in which you can continue growing into the practitioner you want to become. I believe we do better work when we share what we know, make room for one another, and lift each other up as we grow.
A little about me
Outside of work, creativity and relationships remain important parts of my life. I enjoy cooking and hosting small gatherings at home, and I share my home with my two cats, Dou Dou (“little bean”) and Dim Dim (“little dot”). I value spaces where people can gather, create, eat, talk, and feel a sense of belonging.
